A Legacy Built on Purpose

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was founded on May 10, 1930, at Howard University born during the Jim Crow era when African American students were systematically excluded from white Greek-letter organizations. Out of exclusion came excellence.

At UNC–Chapel Hill, our NPHC chapter is the governing body for eight historically Black fraternities and sororities. We conduct philanthropic events and hands-on community projects in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and host programs throughout the year aimed at educating the Carolina community and uplifting all people.

Academic Excellence

Promoting scholarship and high achievement among all members.

Community Service

Welcome to NPHC at UNC

Ty Besses · NPHC President, 2025–2026

Welcome to the official home of the National Pan-Hellenic Council at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As President, it is my honor to represent eight remarkable organizations and the countless students, alumni, and community members who make this council what it is.

The Divine Nine was built not on privilege, but on perseverance. Each of our organizations was born during a time of systemic exclusion, yet they responded with excellence, service, and an unwavering commitment to community. That spirit lives on at Carolina every single day.

Whether you are a first-year student curious about Greek life, a prospective member, or a fellow member of the Divine Nine, I invite you to connect with us. Our council is here to uplift, to serve, and to carry this legacy forward. I'm proud to lead this community, and I'm even prouder of what we're building together.
